How to Install ETS2 Mods — Step by Step

Installing mods in Euro Truck Simulator 2 is straightforward and takes under 5 minutes. This guide works for the Steam version and the standalone version on Windows.

What you need: Euro Truck Simulator 2 installed on Windows · A downloaded .scs mod file

Step 1 — Download the Mod

Go to the mod page on ETS2India.in and click the Download button. After a short countdown, your file will download.

The file will be a .scs file — for example volvo_bus_v2.scs. This is the standard ETS2 mod format.

⚠️ Important: Do NOT unzip or extract the .scs file. It must stay as a single .scs file. Unzipping it will break the mod.

Step 2 — Find Your Mod Folder

You need to place the .scs file inside the ETS2 mod folder on your computer. Open File Explorer and go to:

C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\mod

Replace YourName with your Windows username. If the mod folder does not exist, create it yourself — right-click inside the Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder → New → Folder → name it mod.

Faster Way

Press Windows + R on your keyboard, paste this into the box and press Enter:

%userprofile%\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\mod

This opens the mod folder directly without searching for it.

Step 3 — Copy the .scs File into the Mod Folder

Simply drag and drop your downloaded .scs file into the mod folder you just opened. Or copy and paste it. That is all — the file just needs to sit there.

⚠️ Make sure Euro Truck Simulator 2 is fully closed before adding mods.

Step 4 — Launch ETS2 and Activate the Mod

  1. Open Euro Truck Simulator 2
  2. From the main menu, click Mods
  3. You will see a list of all mods in your mod folder on the left side
  4. Find your newly added mod and click it to move it to the Active Mods list on the right
  5. Click Apply Changes
  6. The game will restart — your mod is now active and ready to use

Step 5 — Check the Game Version

Every mod on ETS2India.in shows which game versions it is compatible with. To check your current ETS2 version:

  1. Open ETS2
  2. Look at the bottom-right corner of the main menu screen
  3. You will see the version number, for example 1.50.2.14s

If your game version is newer than what the mod supports, the mod may not work correctly. Update your game through Steam or check if a newer version of the mod is available on ETS2India.in.

Troubleshooting — Mod Not Working?

  • Did you unzip the .scs file? If yes, delete the extracted folder and use the original .scs file
  • Is the game version compatible? Check the mod page for supported versions
  • Are there conflicting mods? Try disabling other mods one by one to find the conflict
  • Mod not showing in the list? Make sure the file is in the correct mod folder and has the .scs extension

If you still have issues, leave a comment on the mod's page — other users or the creator can usually help.

How to Uninstall a Mod

  1. Open ETS2 → click Mods
  2. Move the mod from Active to Inactive
  3. Click Apply Changes
  4. Optionally delete the .scs file from your mod folder to free up space
